CSFC Cambridge

Greetings from CSFC Cambridge!

This week’s newsletter features the news that CSFC Cambridge has been recognised as the third placed school in the UK for A-levels, based on A* pass rate. We are delighted to take our place only two positions away from the leader – CSFC Cardiff. Our maths department report on the senior mathematics challenge sat by the entire year 12 group. We have had a trip to London to meet representatives from US universities, including Harvard and on a lighter note, we have had Sports Day and our first football fixture of the year.

Regards,
Dr Davies Principal, CSFC Cambridge

CSFC Cambridge: third in the UK

We are delighted to announce that CSFC Cambridge has been placed third in the UK for A-level A* pass rates in 2024. This is an outstanding achievement from our students and we are incredibly proud of them.

The league table has been published by the Times newspaper, and although our cohort size was initially considered too low to be included in the original league table, we have now been recognised by the newspaper as being placed third in the country.

Visit to meet US universities

We had a wonderful time at the US-UK Fulbright Commission’s College Day in London, exploring the many exciting opportunities US Universities have to offer. From meeting university reps from Harvard, Columbia and Yale to learning about admissions and scholarships. The experience was a truly inspiring for our students.

The Senior Mathematics Challenge

On Tuesday 1st October, all students who study Mathematics participated in the UK Mathematics Trust’s Senior Mathematical Challenge. This is a 90-minute challenge with 25 multiple-choice questions. The problems on the Senior Maths Challenge are designed to make students think, with stimulating problems for both beginners and experienced problem-solvers. This is a preliminary round for qualification into more prestigious competitions including the Senior Kanagaroo and British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. Results are anticipated to arrive within the next week or two, and we will provide a further update on student successes in the coming weeks.

Sports Day

On Tuesday 24th September, CSFC Cambridge held their annual sports day. The Houses of Stuart, Surensoy and Payne competed in a variety of individual and team event such as basketball, 100m sprints and rounders. This year was the most competitive yet with excellent participation from all houses and plenty of vociferous support from the spectators. Stand out performers were Khanh Le and John Wood from the Houses of Surensoy and Payne respectively. Both students excelled in the athletics section but also took part in multiple team activities.

The plaudits of the day went to the House of Payne who won a narrow contest and managed to wrestle the inter-house cup off last year’s winners, House of Surensoy. Congratulations to all who took part in the day, it was a great opportunity for CSFC to build community spirit and build bonds and friendships at the start of the school year.

The first football fixture of the year

CSFC Cambridge played their first inter-school match against CATS college cambridge on Saturday 28th September. The team was led by Ibrahim Yusuff and Semilore Akinbo. A spirited first half with strong defences meant that the score was a 0-0 draw at half time. A more open second half saw CATS college exploit some weaknesses in defence as the game finished 0-4 to the opposition. The determination and effort were evident throughout the team over the whole match and we look forward to gaining some more positive results with upcoming matches.
