Research

Many students at Cardiff Sixth Form College undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an independent research project based on a student’s own interests.

An exciting opportunity to take charge of their own learning, students under the guidance of their personal tutor, plan their area of study and undertake research to support their topic.  The end product is generally a 5,000-word essay although some EPQ students have created a product such as a drone, music composition, website or piece of artwork with a shorter 1,000-word written element.  So far, every student at Cardiff Sixth Form College who has undertaken an EPQ (worth half an A Level in UCAS points) has achieved an A*.  The EPQ is highly regarded by UK universities and is often discussed at interview stage generally resulting in lower offers being given to students who have undertaken one.
