Oxford Union Schools’ Debating Competition Heats

Posted: 17th March 2017

Cardiff Sixth Form College was overjoyed to host the South Wales round of the Oxford Union Schools’ Debating Competition this year.

28 teams of students from different schools and colleges throughout the region entered this prestigious competition, competing for a place at Finals Day at the University of Oxford.

The motions they debated were:  ‘This House would only allow athletes to compete for their country of birth’ and ‘This House believes that social media sites should only allow users to share news articles from creditable sources’.

Four places were available for the finals and we are delighted to reveal that two of our teams were successful in obtaining places:  Odu Salu and Havi Sabarigirivasan, and Timothy Tempus and Ashvin Arunathan.

Musiab Bhat and Matthew Wainwright also represented the college at the event, putting up a strong performance against such teams as Atlantic College, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School, Christ College Brecon and Howell’s School.
