Debating Matters: Engineering Debate

Posted: 13th October 2016

On Monday 10th October, Cardiff Sixth Form College was invited by the Institute of Ideas Debating Matters Competition to take part in their first Engineering debate, on ‘The Future of Engineering In Wales’. Debating Matters, in partnership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers hosted the event at Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, producing a series of themed debates about the future of engineering and education, and technologies and their relationship with society.

Congratulations to all the debaters, who prepared thoroughly not only for the presentation of their speeches, but also for the challenging questions they faced from the panel of judges, other competitors and the audience, on such topics as, “Technological Progress Will Not Solve Society’s Environmental Issues”.

The judges, all professional engineers, were impressed by the scope of the debates, stating that making final decisions on the winning team was not easy. Well done to Sasha and Bernard for winning their debate, against very strong opposition”
