With a deep passion for mathematics education, Tom brings a wealth of experience and a forward-thinking approach to his role as Head of Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
Tom holds a BSc in Mathematics from Cardiff University and a PGCE from the University of South Wales. His career began at a small, independent sixth-form college, where he quickly advanced from Head of Mathematics to Vice Principal. He later spent a year at one of the UK’s largest online schools, focusing on the development and application of technology for innovative teaching and learning. Tom joined Cardiff Sixth Form College in 2023, where he served as a teacher and later as Second in Department before assuming his current leadership role.
Tom is dedicated to creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. He specialises in using technology and AI to make complex mathematical concepts more accessible and intuitive. He champions an open, interactive classroom where students are encouraged to collaborate and learn without fear of judgment. Tom’s philosophy is rooted in challenging every student to reach their full potential, regardless of their starting point. As Head of Department, he is also committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative culture among his team, ensuring the continued success of the department.
