Summer 2025 Newsletter

As summer arrives and the academic year draws to a close, we look back on a vibrant and eventful term at Cardiff Sixth Form College. This season has seen us celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our community at the annual Cultural Event, honour the achievements of our Year 13 students at the 2025 Graduation Ceremony, and showcase the creative talents of our students at the annual Art Exhibition.

June was particularly busy, with our Biology students attending the much-anticipated annual field trip to West Wales, where they gained valuable hands-on experience in a range of ecological studies. Meanwhile, students and staff from both our Cardiff and Cambridge campuses travelled to Tanzania for our International Citizenship Experience, immersing themselves in local culture and contributing to meaningful community projects.

With A Level exams now complete, our Year 13 students are preparing to embark on the next chapter of their academic journeys at top universities across the globe. It’s been a fitting end to the 2024/2025 school year, and we look forward to what the summer – and the future – will bring.

CSFC Cultural Event 2025

The CSFC Cultural Event 2025 took place at the International Conference Centre in Newport and brought together students, staff, families, and special guests for an evening of reflection and celebration at the end of another successful academic year.

The event featured a formal dinner, student performances, and the presentation of awards recognising a range of achievements across the college. It was an opportunity to come together as a community and to acknowledge the hard work, talent, and contributions of our students throughout the year.

Many students chose to wear traditional cultural dress, highlighting the diversity that is such a distinctive part of life at Cardiff Sixth Form College. The evening’s performances – including music, dance, and spoken word – reflected this global perspective and were well received by the audience.

One of the evening’s highlights was the announcement of the 2025 House Cup winner. Congratulations go to Parry House, who earned the top spot after a year of strong participation and performance in academic and extracurricular activities. Awards were also presented to students who had shown particular commitment, leadership, and achievement across a variety of fields.

2025 Graduation Ceremony

The Class of 2025 recently celebrated their Graduation from Cardiff Sixth Form College. This incredible year group has worked tirelessly over the past two years to secure their A Levels and offers from some of the world’s leading universities, including Yale, Oxford, Cambridge and the University of Hong Kong.

Academic Awards were presented by the Principal, Tom Arrand, and we were delighted to be joined by Dukes Education CEO, Mr Tim Fish, who presented all students with their CSFC Alumni pin badges. A moving speech by Head Student, Thara, captured the spirit of this inspirational year group and all of the students, parents and staff who attended agreed that this was a magnificent occasion.

Summer Art Exhibition

The final major event in the Cardiff Sixth Form College calendar is always a special one – our annual Student Art Exhibition, held each June. This much-anticipated showcase brings together a stunning collection of artwork created throughout the year by our A Level and IGCSE students.

Once again, the standard was exceptionally high, with a diverse range of styles, media and themes on display. From intricate pencil sketches and bold mixed-media pieces to thought-provoking conceptual works, the exhibition reflected the talent, creativity and dedication of our young artists. Several pieces stood out as truly outstanding, capturing the attention and admiration of students, staff and visitors alike.

The Art Exhibition not only highlights the strength of the college’s art programme, but also provides a fitting and inspiring end to the academic year. Congratulations to all the students who contributed their work – your creativity continues to impress and inspire.

AS Biology Field trip

In June, nearly 100 of our AS Biology students took part in a residential field course in the beautiful coastal region of Pembrokeshire, West Wales. This annual trip is a highlight of the Biology calendar and offers students a valuable opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world environments.

Over the course of the trip, students engaged in a range of practical fieldwork activities designed to deepen their understanding of ecological systems. They explored sand dune succession at Freshwater Beach, studying the changes in plant communities over time and learning how to collect and analyse environmental data. On the rocky shore, students assessed species abundance and biodiversity, gaining first-hand experience in identifying marine organisms and using ecological sampling techniques.

In addition to their academic work, students also enjoyed some hands-on fun, trying their hand at crabbing and seine netting—activities that sparked curiosity and built teamwork skills in a more informal setting.

International Citizenship Experience – Tanzania

This summer, students and staff from both our Cardiff and Cambridge campuses took part in an unforgettable International Citizenship Experience in Tanzania. The week-long trip was packed with hands-on medical volunteering, cultural exchange, and immersive learning.

Students shadowed doctors across hospital departments, provided health checks in Maasai communities and schools, and delivered educational presentations at a local HIV rehabilitation centre. They embraced the local culture through Swahili lessons, traditional cooking, and dancing, and enjoyed incredible excursions including a coffee-making workshop at Mount Kilimanjaro, a safari in Tarangire National Park, and visits to local markets.

The trip was a powerful blend of service, learning, and adventure — leaving students inspired, more globally aware, and deeply connected to the communities they served.
