Exam Practice

As we approach the exam season, we would like to highlight the key dates for upcoming A-Level and AS-Level exam practice sessions. From 5th to 7th February, students will take part in Exam Practices 2, which will focus on current units to help them prepare for their forthcoming assessments. Following this, Mock Exams 2 will take place from 7th to 11th April, offering comprehensive exams for both Year 13 and Year 12 students. For Year 13, Mock Exams 3 will be held from 5th to 9th May, providing a focused opportunity for final exam preparation ahead of the public exams. The AS and A-Level public exams are set to begin on 12th May, and students will receive detailed timetables in the coming months. These practice sessions are designed to give students valuable experience and build their confidence as they approach their final exams.

Thermochemistry

Last week, students witnessed thermochemistry in action during an exciting and explosive Chemistry lesson. Under the guidance of Mrs Hilton, methane bubbles were released and then ignited with a stick, vividly demonstrating the combustion reaction. Practical experiments like this bring classroom theory to life, helping students connect their learning to real-world applications. These dynamic lessons not only enhance understanding but also engage a variety of learning styles, making science both captivating and memorable.

Cultural Ambassador

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Kateryna Gorkun, Year 12, as our new Cultural Ambassador. In this important role, Kateryna will represent the student body and develop a range of events, activities, and trips that celebrate both our rich British heritage and the diverse cultures within our college.

As a college renowned for its academic excellence, we are equally proud of our diverse student body and are committed to offering our students a well-rounded and memorable experience while studying in the UK. To this end students can look forward to activities such as the International Cinema Takeover, cultural excursions to landmarks such as the Tower of London, and cooking masterclasses featuring some of our favourite dishes, Jollof Rice, sushi and Trifle.

Through these initiatives, we aim to cultivate an environment that encourages cultural exchange and the development of meaningful connections between future leaders and innovators across the globe.

US University Applications with A-List Education

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Umut Arslan from A-List Education to our Cake and Juice evening. A-List Education, founded by Ivy League graduates, provides personalised support for SAT & ACT prep, university applications, and expert tutoring services.

The event saw a great turnout, with many students eager to learn more about the process of applying to US universities. We recognise that the US application system can feel overwhelming, especially for those unfamiliar with it. However, with the expertise of A-List, alongside the guidance of our Head of Careers, Mr Fuge, and our dedicated Heads of House, our students have the support they need every step of the way. Together, we aim to eliminate confusion and help students focus on crafting polished, competitive applications.

We extend our sincere thanks to Umut Arslan for delivering an engaging and informative presentation, and for creating a relaxed atmosphere where students could ask specific questions about their unique circumstances. This personalised approach provided a tailored experience for each of our students.

Award assembly

In last week’s assembly, we were pleased to recognise the outstanding achievements of our students who participated in the Physics and Maths Olympiads. It was an honour to present them with their well-deserved certificates, celebrating their hard work, dedication, and exceptional problem-solving skills.
