The annual Cultural Event, one of the highlights of the Cardiff Sixth Form calendar, will be taking place online tomorrow lunchtime Tuesday 23 June 2020.
The event is an annual awards ceremony with students nominated by their teachers for the following awards: GCSE student of the Year, GCSE CREATE Award, Pastoral Leadership Award, Wellbeing Achievement Award, Chemistry Award, Physics Award, Biology Award, Economics Award, History Award, Geography Award, English and Languages Award, Maths Award, EPQ Award, ICE Award, Sports Award, Inter-House Participation Award, House Cup Winners, AS Student of the Year, Outstanding Achievement Award, Student of the Year and the Principal’s Award.
This year, due to COVID19, the event is taking place later in the year than normal and promises to be a real tear jerker as this is the last time the whole student and staff body comes together for the year before the A2 students leave for university.
The Cultural Event is hosted by the students with entertainment also provided by the student body. This year the programme includes a variety of students producing videos entitled ‘My Life in Lockdown’ and there are two stunning dance performances planned: the first entitled ‘Heaven and Earth’ and the second ‘The Shiva Tandav’. Two of the College’s talented pianists will perform Chopin’s ‘Fantaisie’ and ‘Ronda Alla Turca’ by Mozart and a vocal rendition of ‘Killing Me Softly’ and a cello duet ‘Shape of My Heart’ will be a treat for everyone watching.
The last performance of the event is a group performance by the GLEE choir of ‘Seasons of Love’ from Rent and the event ends with a speech from the Principal, Gareth Collier and a presentation by the Cardiff Sixth Form College Prefects.
Every year the students dress up in national dress to celebrate world culture and to portray the vibrant mix of over 40 nationalities that are represented at the College from around the world. It truly is spectacular with vivid colours, materials and vibrancy. Personal messages from both the teachers and student body can often make the Cultural Event a genuinely emotional time and really demonstrate the warmth and respect that staff and students have for one another and the special nature of the Cardiff Sixth Form College community. Not to be missed.
