Year 10 students took part in a national competition run by Primary Engineer called ‘If you were an engineer what would you do?’. The competition had over 75,000 entries across 25 regions of the UK. The students designed a device to solve a problem in the real world. Each entry was graded by engineers and Adrian and Arina were chosen as the winners of our region with Siying and Kenny given the Highly Commended awards. All four entries will be displayed in an exhibition and award ceremony on Wednesday 2nd July from 14:00 -19:00 at the University of South Wales, Treforest Campus.
Overall the school received the following awards; four Passes, six Merits, three Distinctions and eleven Distinction Shortlisted. Due to this Cardiff Sixth Form College also received the 2025 School Award for our region.
Arina – A device that help children with mental illnesses (e.g. anxiety, autism, or ADHD) by providing emotional support, guidance, and comfort during difficult moments or in day to day life. It helps by combining a soft, allergen-free plush exterior with an AI-powered mini computer inside. Buddy offers real-time advice, solutions during panic attacks, and casual conversation, all personalized through a connected app where the child can customize Buddy’s voice, name and more.
Adrian – A posture tracking device. A small, lightweight sensor that attaches to the user’s upper back or shoulders to monitor their postures all the time. The device tracks the posture habits of the user over time and provides insights into their progress in maintaining better posture.
