During Enrichment Week the careers team organised a stunning online meet up with some of the top universities worldwide.
On 19 October, Mr Tom Whittaker, European Representative for the International Admissions Office of the University of British Columbia spoke to Cardiff students via Zoom about the opportunities of studying in UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Amongst many insightful discussion points about the courses on offer and life in each of the campuses, students learned about how to best optimise their application to UBC, including scholarships on offer for high achieving international students.
Tuesday 20 October Mr Francis Chan from the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Chinese University of Hong Kong spoke to our CSFC students via Zoom about applying to and studying at CUHK. Students learned all about the courses on offer at CUHK and their combined programmes at prestigious universities around the world, how to apply non-JUPAS, application requirements, scholarship opportunities and their unique college system. At the end, students had the opportunity to direct ask any questions to Francis about how to best optimise their upcoming applications.
On Wednesday 21 October Cardiff University’s School of Dentistry took to the stage, discussing the merits of studying dentistry as a career, led by the Professor of Oral Medicine.
Canada’s top university, the University of Toronto also presented on the university as a leading destination for innovators and trailblazers the world over. With three campuses in and around Toronto, a hub for culture, finance and technology, the admissions officer discussed professional training in and out of the classroom, international partnerships, research courses, cutting-edge facilities and the warm collegiate communities. Ms Kelli Brenton, Admissions Officer, spoke to our students about studying in Canada and specifically, Toronto. Students learned about studying in a world Top 20 university, and all about the individual campuses on offer to them – St George’s, Scarborough and Mississauga. Students were able to ask Kelli direct questions about scholarship opportunities, post-study opportunities in Canada and about their prestigious co-operative learning curriculum.
Thursday 21 October saw Cardiff University’s School of Engineering give a lecture on the admissions process, led by the senior lecturer in Geo-Environmental Engineering.
They were followed by Ms Lisa Mortini, the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions for New York University who introduced our students to studying in an American-style liberal arts curriculum and all of the opportunities that come with living in the US! Overseeing admissions for all NYU campuses – New York, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, students learned about the opportunities to study abroad not just for a semester but for the entire duration of their programme. A valuable Q&A was held where students were able to ask Lisa questions about how to strengthen their US applications, including essays, extra-curricular, testing and more.
Sarah Nash, Director of Study Options to speak to our students who were interested in applying to Australian or New Zealand universities. Of particular note was Sarah’s section on the intricacies and developments in Medicine applications, including admissions tests, interviews and direct/pathway programmes on offer to students.
Our students then joined Imperial College, King’s College, UCL and LSE for a joint presentation addressing study options, life as a student in London and the application process, followed by a live Q&A session.
It was a stunning array of presentations and gave our students much to think about in terms of considering an international university for their degree.
