Cardiff Sixth Form College was given a mock inspection last week to give the College a weather check on the status of its readiness for a future inspection.  The focus of the inspection was on Training and Learning, Pastoral Care, Boarding Provision, SMSC Development, Leadership and Management and Governance.  Selected informal comments from the inspectors included:

“Rapid progress evident in well-paced lessons”

“Very high levels of numeracy and literacy demonstrated with appropriate, challenging activities”

“Very strong university preparation – best we have ever seen”

“High expectations matched by high delivery standards”

“Tolerant and cohesive community supported by a strong pastoral programme”

“Safeguarding taken very seriously by staff with clear access points for students”

“Thorough and detailed pupil tracking enabling strong student support”

“Professional governors providing appropriate guidance”

In addition, the inspectors were also extremely impressed with the Cardiff students with comments including:

“Exemplary conduct”

“The most pleasant school dining room experience, we have ever undertaken – we could actually hear ourselves speak!”

“Confident and aware students with a passion for their education and for the college”

Said one of the inspectors:  “Cardiff Sixth Form College provides an outstanding level of education with many areas inspected reaching the highest levels possible. Areas for improvement have been well identified by both management, teaching and pastoral staff and the implementation of these plans will further enhance the already impressive provision. With the exception of one necessary, significant immediate need for change, all other actions are well catered for in the school’s plans and the implementation of these is fully encouraged and endorsed.”

Principal, Gareth Collier stated:  I am delighted with this outcome and we shall be implementing the necessary changes and actions as soon as possible and will engage with the relevant staff in order to ensure that remain true to our vision of being ‘The Best Sixth Form College in the World.’  It is very important not to become complacent and here at Cardiff Sixth Form College we are constantly looking to improve what we offer our students and to ensure that we are ahead of the game.”
