What a busy few weeks it has been for the College’s mathematicians… In the recent SMC individual competition the College had 32 Bronze Certificate winners, 40 Silver and 32 Gold. There were also 35 students who qualified for the next roun (the ‘Kangaroo’), and 12 students who achieved sufficiently high scores, that they would qualify for round 1 of the Olympiad.

Furthermore, at the Team Maths Challenge, held in the splendid Glamorgan Building of Cardiff University, the College competed against other schools and colleges from South Wales and the West Country. The team consisted of: Rachel Leung, Zhuo Chen, Sharon Ho and Junyu Ren.

Paul Harper, Professor of Operational Research and Deputy Head of the School of Mathematics, Cardiff University, tweeted: “Pleasure for @MathsCU to host the regional heat of @UKMathsTrust senior team challenge (9th year now). Serious maths brain power on display! Congratulations to CSFC team on winning and progressing to the final in London next February. Good luck!”
