CSFC Cambridge Newsletter 13 January 2025

Greetings from CSFC Cambridge!

This week, we are delighted to celebrate the impressive success of our students in the Physics Olympiad. We also highlight one of our Year 12 students’ exceptional poster presentation at the Babraham Institute Sixth Form Conference. Additionally, we provide an update on the latest developments regarding university applications.

Regards,
Dr Davies Principal, CSFC Cambridge

Physics Olympiad Success

We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of our students in the British Physics Olympiad Round 1. Special congratulations to Danny Nwanguma, Juncheng Xiang, Diekola Raimi who each earned a prestigious Gold Award. In addition, five of our students were awarded Silver, nine received Bronze I or II awards, and thirteen earned commendations. These impressive results reflect the exceptional talent and dedication of both our students and teachers here at CSFC Cambridge. The British Physics Olympiad fosters a passion for physics and celebrates the excellence of young physicists through ten annual competitions, and we are incredibly proud of our students’ accomplishments.

University Applications

As our Year 13 students eagerly await their university offers—currently, we have 60 conditional offers through UCAS from Russell Group universities—Year 12 students are preparing to embark on their own university application journey. They will begin with an informative workshop at Christ’s College, University of Cambridge. This session will include an introduction to Cambridge University, followed by a masterclass on crafting a standout personal statement, led collaboratively by CSFC Cambridge and Cambridge University. This exciting opportunity is a key step in helping our students navigate the application process with confidence.

Babraham Institute Sixth Form Conference

Congratulations to Malikai Shavkat for securing second place at the Babraham Institute Sixth Form Conference with her exceptional scientific poster on Proteostasis. The Babraham Institute, renowned worldwide for its pioneering life science research, is dedicated to advancing the fundamental discoveries needed to maintain health and enhance well-being throughout life. Malikai’s achievement not only reflects her deep passion for biology but also showcases her commitment to scientific inquiry and research excellence. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment.

Malikai commented on her experience: “I am honored that my poster was selected from the many outstanding submissions displayed that evening. The event further ignited my passion for biology, and the competition inspired me to delve deeper into the fascinating mechanisms of proteostasis. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s speakers, particularly Mr. Khashayar Khoshrou, whose insightful talk on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and their potential left a lasting impression.”

CSFC International Citizenship Experience

There is still time for students to sign up for CSFC’s International Citizenship Experience. This unique opportunity offers students immersive work experience while allowing them to explore fascinating cultures and create memories that will last a lifetime. This year, Year 12 students can choose to participate in one of two exciting programs: the Tanzania Medicine and Healthcare Programme or the Sri Lanka Engineering Programme. You will have received an email from Natalie Ashworth with further details about these programs and instructions on how your child can sign up. If you have any questions or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact her.
