Brain Day 2026

Posted: 17th June 2026

Year 12 CSFC Psychology Students Explore the Fascinating World of Neuroscience

Year 12 CSFC Psychology students gained a fascinating insight into the world of neuroscience during a special Brain Day event led by Dr Guy Sutton.

The day began with an engaging lecture exploring the latest developments in brain research, during which Dr Sutton shared a range of cutting-edge studies that encouraged students to think critically about the relationship between the brain, consciousness and human behaviour. Students then observed a live sheep brain dissection, providing a unique opportunity to connect concepts from their studies with biological structures.

Students were particularly captivated by discussions surrounding brain activity at the end of life. Hailey, who is keen to pursue Psychology at university, reflected on one of the most thought-provoking aspects of the lecture:

“I was particularly fascinated by neuroscientific evidence suggesting that the brain may continue to function for a period after death. Learning about cases where brain wave activity persisted after a person had been declared legally dead raised intriguing questions about consciousness, memory and the boundary between life and death. These discoveries challenge our understanding of the brain and open exciting new avenues for future research.”

Deputy Head of Humanities, Hannah Irvine-Jones, commented:

“Experiences like this allow students to engage with Psychology beyond the specification, exposing them to current research and debates within the field. It was wonderful to see students asking insightful questions and developing a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the human brain.”

Brain Day was a memorable and enriching experience that left a lasting impression on our students – one that will support and inspire them as they pursue a wide range of future careers including medicine, law and many more.
