On Friday 29th March, Cardiff Sixth Form College hosted its annual Cultural Event at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
A celebration of the diversity and achievements of our college and its students, the Cultural Event is organised by a committee of AS-Level students who are responsible for planning the entire event including venue hire, catering and entertainment.
Each year, the entertainment programme consists of a range of performances from our students, in addition to a delicious three-course meal and an awards ceremony to celebrate students’ achievements.
The event was once again a great chance for students from around 40 nationalities to display the immense amount of talent we are lucky to have at our college.
Highlights included The Locals’ covering Kings of Leon ‘Use Somebody’, Aiya Tungusheva’s incredible performance of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ and Paul Dugdale and Annie Chan’s mesmerising rendition of ‘Moonriver’ moving into the breakneck pace of ‘Misirlou’ from Pulp Fiction.
Raffle tickets were available on the night with prizes won such as a signed Glamorgan Cricket Club bat. Over £850 was raised on the night for the Velindre Cancer Centre, a fantastic achievement.
The audience on the night consisted of staff and their families, current and alumni students, parents and guests, all of whom were very impressed by the organisational skills and talent of our students.
Our Principal Gareth Collier said, “When students and parents see members of staff clearly enjoying the interaction and glowing with pride at their achievements, there is a real feeling of spirit within the college. Of course none of this could even begin to be possible without the enormous effort put in by Georgina and the Prefect team. Without the professionalism and attention to detail that Georgina shows, events such as this would cease to have the impact that they do. I am grateful to them and to you all for making the evening such a success.”
