Last Wednesday Cardiff Sixth Form College attended the ‘Spotlight on Genetics and Genomics’ Conference at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff.
This was the 8th conference of this type to take place aimed at post-16 students, it looked at how discoveries in the rapidly advancing areas of DNA, genetics and genomics and how they are now being applied to aspects of everyday life.
This proved popular with CSFC students and there were a number of stands from local universities and careers organisations offering an opportunity for students to find out more about relevant careers, courses and hands-on activities.
Talks included – ‘Living in a DNA driven world’, ‘Why can’t I sleep? The genes that keep you up at night’, ‘Working with the Bees of Wales to Combat Hospital Superbugs and Inspire the Next Generation of Welsh Scientists’ and many more.
