CSFC French students attend remembrance event

Posted: 5th February 2021

The 27th of January this year marked Holocaust remembrance day. This particular day  encourages and invites everyone to reflect on the depths humanity can sink to, but also the ways individuals and communities resisted that darkness to be the light before, during and after genocide.

A group of AS and Alevel French students took part in a live streamed event organised by the Guardian where 92-year-old Colette Marin-Catherine shared her remarkable story. This was a really exciting opportunity to develop further our talented linguists’ knowledge and understanding of this part of history as well as their language skills. Here is what they had to say:

“ I found the interview extremely intriguing and an invaluable experience. To listen to Colette who had lived through this unimaginable and tragic period of history gave me a real sense of perspective of what had really happened during WW2.” Charlie

“The documentary was informative and based on the experience of Colette’s life. It was very interesting for me to hear her viewpoint and emotions about her life experience in an occupied France.Through Colette eyes we discovered an incredibly moving and poignant journey into Germany and to the site of unimaginable terror and pain.” Dana

“It was very informative and reliable as Colette spoke about her experience without exaggeration.

This documentary helped me better understand this period we are currently studying in our French class. It visually took the audience to these horrible concentration camps and Colette spoke about her emotions during and after the war.” Laura
