Annual Careers Fair Opens Up to the Public

Posted: 5th April 2017

Yesterday, Cardiff Sixth Form College opened its annual Careers Fair up to the public for the very first time, enabling AS-level students from both CSFC and other local schools/colleges to meet with top UK universities.

Around 30 different universities exhibited at the fair including the University of Oxford, LSE, Imperial College London, University of St Andrews, Durham University, Lancaster University and University College London; all listed within the Complete University Guide’s Top 10 UK Universities for 2017.

In addition, we were lucky to have a representative present from Oxbridge Applications, Dukes Medical Applications and Jon Tabbert Associates; market leaders in application support for UK and US universities and medical schools, owned by CSFC’s new partner, Dukes Education.

Whilst some bigger HE fairs attract criticism because they don’t enable students to explore their career paths on an individual basis with universities, our Careers Fair enables students to connect on a one-to-one level with admissions teams from universities spanning different subject areas, locations and league table rankings.

In addition, we arrange for universities to deliver presentations to our students to provide them with an insight into university life, and educate them on their applications and admissions processes. This year, we held eight presentations in connection with Durham University, the University of Bath, Edinburgh University, the University of Oxford, Birmingham University, the University of Bristol, LSE, Imperial College London, King’s College London and University College London.

Speaking about the success of this year’s Careers Fair, Head of Careers, Ms. Hayley Bendle commented: “The sheer quality and calibre of the universities in attendance today demonstrate the strong connections that we have with these universities, to which the majority of our students apply. It is flattering that these illustrious institutions are willing to be represented in our Careers Fair and I am looking forward to continuing to work with them all very closely to strengthen links, all in support of our students’ university applications.”

Our 2017 Careers Fair has been a great success, with university representatives commenting on the polite, inquisitive manner of CSFC students. Meanwhile, our students have benefited from the opportunity to talk to their preferred universities about their career aspirations, prior to commencing their all-important UCAS applications in September.
