In the second of our student blog posts written from Malaysia, where some of our students are currently partaking in our annual Goodwill Ambassador Programme (GAP), we hand over to AS-Level British student, Claire Williams to hear about her first experience with ENT surgery in a general hospital:
“My experience in the general hospital was especially interesting. After witnessing an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) operation in which doctors removed three bones from inside the ear and removed infection from the mastoid bone in an exploratory surgery, I learnt that working in the healthcare profession is somewhat challenging considering the lack of resources in the Malaysian healthcare system, compared to the NHS. However, the most important thing that I learnt from the doctors, nurses and matrons was that medicine is not an easy career; you witness life and death, but it is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding careers.”
