The British Biology Olympiad challenges and stimulates gifted students with an interest in Biology to expand and extend their talents. In offering a wider syllabus than A-level, it allows gifted students to demonstrate their knowledge and to be suitably rewarded and publicly recognised by the award of medals, certificates and other prizes. It is hoped that competing in the Olympiad will encourage students already interested in this valuable, wide-ranging and rewarding subject to continue their study beyond A-level. The British Biology Olympiad is open to all post 16 students in the UK. It challenges the most talented young biologists through a series of rounds involving multiple choice papers, written papers and practical assessments. The winners of the final then go on to represent the UK in the world championship in Singapore in July. Congratulations to the following students in their excellent results in the Biology Olympiad: Gold: Joseph Lo, Maggie Ting and Carly Mak The three gold winners went on to sit a further written paper which was submitted to The Society of Biology for marking. Joseph has been selected to compete for the next round at Birmingham University from the 2nd-4th April. He will be undertaking a theory and practical exam against 15 other students. If he is successful then he will be representing (part of a team of four) the UK in the international competition in Singapore. |
