At the Centre of Excellence, Sixth Form College we believe in total tuition techniques to ensure that every student fulfils his/her potential. We believe in attention to detail. For example, we conduct regular audits of examination board requirements to ensure that students and tutors are following the current examination specifications and options.
We use exam-based teaching methods. Students receive regular topic specific examination practice in addition to sitting mock exams in December and April. By testing students regularly on their previous work, we not only ensure their full understanding of their subjects but build their confidence for the final exams.
We place great emphasis on the successful time management of our courses; it is essential that the teacher covers everything in the specification - knowingly spending 20 minutes on minor topics and 4 hours on more important topics - allowing mocks to be undertaken at the end of the course before examinations. This is particularly true in the one year intensive programmes for both GCSE and A Level at our Sixth Form College.
A highly organised teaching programme, underpinned by regular written homework and timed tests, will lead to successful outcome, given 100% commitment, attendance and punctuality on the part of the student.
We ensure study techniques are fully integrated into all teaching:- study skills, revision, testing, note taking, critical thinking, speed reading, memory skills and time management - much more than you would find in any ordinary school or college.
We endeavour the students to achieve 100% in their modules, which would make it easier to obtain the newly introduced A* in their A Level.
The Centre has had the Best A Level Results in Cardiff and in Wales in 2007, with 81% of the entries gaining an A grade and 90% gaining A/B grade from (115 entries).
